The Surface in Space

To make his works, Hannes Norberg (b. Worms, 1969; lives and works in Düsseldorf) constructs models designed for the camera’s eye out of basic materials: architectural maquettes and situations suggesting landscapes. Drawing, graphic art, and sculptural design alternate with digital technologies. Diverse interlocking shapes, colors, media, and meanings coalesce in a structured visual field. The photographs illustrate the visual synthesis of construction and representation in the contemplation of things in light.

Divided into seven chapters, the monograph Feld und Fläche retraces the conceptual evolution of Hannes Norberg’s visual art from 2010 until 2025. Rounded out by draft sketches and earlier works, the book was designed by the artist and comes with personal annotations.
