Annabel Daou

their stories were not our stories

“There is an element of ruin in all my work and also a gesture towards repair.”

Annabel Daou’s artistic practice takes place at the intersection of writing, speech, and non-verbal modes of communication. Her paper-based constructions, sound pieces, and performances explore the language of power, intimacy, and self-encounter. Daou’s work is often constructed out of lightweight, seemingly ephemeral materials that both indicate and resist a sense of objecthood.

The edition is released in the context of Daou’s monograph Possibilities of Repair. In a repetitive process, Daou tears rice paper, folds houses out of these paper cards, photographs them, and prints them. Finally, each print is painted over with a line of text in watercolor, reflecting on senses of belonging and memory.
