Cycles and Consequences of Digital Consumerism

Aram Bartholl’s (b. Bremen, 1972; lives and works in Berlin) performative interventions, sculptures, and workshops examine conflicts around digital technology and automation and interrogates our contemporary engagement with media. By translating surveillance, data security, or the dependency of social networks and channels of consumption on technology into objects and arrangements in three dimensions, he prompts discussions about the gaps, contradictions, and absurdities of our digital everyday lives. In his most recent project, he transformed Kunsthalle Osnabrück into an immersive recycling yard for commodities, electronic devices, and digital technologies.

The publication Package ready for pickup documents the artist’s most extensive solo exhibition to date, with writings by Tilman Baumgärtel, Marloes de Valk, Anna Jehle, and Juliane Schickedanz.
