Ärger

Distrust of Reason

Conny Maier (lives and works in Berlin and Baleal) reflects in her works polarities of dominance and submission, equilibrium and instability as well as the human and the non-human. Figures with wide-open mouths and gelatinous feet, many of them with multiple breasts and wearing grotesque headdresses, roam her canvases in lively and spirited brushstrokes. The compositions prompt profound questions concerning our human existence and our survival in the face of the looming disasters of the twenty-first century, without providing ready-made answers.

The artist’s edition Ärger is released in conjunction with Maier’s first and comprehensive monograph Beautiful Disasters as a special boxed set including the book. The archival pigment print features unique details added by the artist and is signed and numbered recto and verso.
