Edith Dekyndt

From Two Thousand and Sixteen to Two Thousand and Twenty Three

Past and present blur in the work of Belgian artist Edith Dekyndt (b. Ypres, Belgium, 1960; lives and works in Brussels). Her practice treats objects as active witnesses, bearing traces of transformation and unseen forces. Physical and chemical process result in painterly and sculptural qualities and, eventually, in a kind of beauty that rests on fragility as much as brutality, allure as much as destruction. The works are complemented by dedicated performances in which the archaic and the contemporary communicate. 

Bringing together a large collection of artworks by Edith Dekyndt, this book presents a new course in her artistic practice, from her major exhibition at Wiels in Brussels in 2016 to the display cases surrounding the Rotunda at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris. It also contains a selection of essays and presentations of her works, with texts by Alexandra Bordes, Vinciane Despret, Tim Goossens, Léon Kruijswijk, Emma Lavigne, Dirk Snauwaert and Katja Schroeder.
