Frederic Anderson

High Drama, Tantric Dreams

The Energy of the Line

Frederic Anderson’s (b. Luxembourg, 1973; lives and works in London) paintings are distinguished by a pervasive sense of fluidity. They consist of colorful traces ranging from curt dashes to long and languid lines that flit across the canvas. Anderson harnesses the visceral gestures of untrained and spontaneous graphical practices such as graffiti and children’s scrawls as well as elements of calligraphy. The airbrush, a tool that allows for the rapid application of paint, is central to his technique, lending vibrant momentum to works that suggest the inspiration of Cy Twombly or Martin Barré.

Titled High Drama, Tantric Dreams, the artist’s first monograph presents his most recent works. Alex Bacon contributed an essay and spoke to the artist.
