Giacomo Santiago Rogado

ALL THAT YOU SEE
Kunstmuseum Thun, Kunsthalle Göppingen

“I’m interested in the illusion, because it makes us believe we’ve found a solution.”

Giacomo Santiago Rogado (b. Lucerne, Switzerland, 1979; lives and works in Basel and Berlin) is a Swiss artist with Italian and Spanish roots whose paintings, works on paper, and sprawling installations combine diverse traditions of the painterly medium. Pioneering new tools, techniques, and materials, he explores the potentials, limitations, and premises of painting. In time-consuming processes, he creates works that probe perception and seeing as such. Many of them draw connections between his early work and his current output; figurative or abstract set pieces such as clouds and geometric elements are fixtures of Rogado’s repertoire.

Published on occasion of the double exhibition at Kunstmuseum Thun and Kunsthalle Göppingen, the monograph ALL THAT YOU SEE surveys Giacomo Santiago Rogado’s oeuvre of the past twenty years. With a preface by Helen Hirsch (director, Kunstmuseum Thun) and Melanie Ardjah (Kunsthalle Göppingen), essays by Melanie Ardjah and Luca Libertini, and a collection of quotes about the artist compiled by Amanda Haas.
