A Renewal of Nude Photography
Ranging from classical portraiture and nudes to still lifes, Karin Székessy’s (b. Essen, 1938; lives and works in Hamburg and the south of France) photographic oeuvre evinces an unerring eye for form, light, and subtlety. In the 1950s, she began studying the female body and took her first nude photographs. Now well into her eighties, Székessy continues to work, creating pictures that exude a surrealist yet intimate atmosphere.
Zeitspuren einer Ikone der Fotografie surveys the wide spectrum of Karin Székessy’s art—from her early experimental work and iconic portraits of fellow artists like James Baldwin, Hans Bellmer, Joseph Beuys, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and Meret Oppenheim to her most recent output. With a foreword by Carsten Junge, an introduction by Daniele Muscionico, essays by Simone Scardovelli and Wolfgang Söder, and an interview with the photographer by Sven Hoffmann.
