Kay Walkowiak

Interbeing

Playful Displacements

The sculptor, photographer, and video artist Kay Walkowiak’s (b. Salzburg, 1980; lives and works in Vienna) oeuvre blends strategies of conceptual and post-minimal art. Many of his works explore the historical and sociocultural uses of forms and question their function as a projection screen for timeless utopias. In this way, the artist reveals diverse conceptions of form, space, and time.

In his most recent works, Walkowiak increasingly focuses not only on utopias but also on society’s yearning for alternatives to a political and ecological present perceived as dissatisfactory. Questions concerning new models of community and interconnection tying together all forms of life are at the heart of these artistic explorations.

Interbeing offers insights into Walkowiak’s output of the past twenty years. With writings by Yuki Higashino and Stephen Zepke as well as a conversation between Kay Walkowiak and Stephanie Damianitsch.
