Unconditional Archive
Marina Xenofontos’s overarching artistic endeavor is what she describes as an “unconditional archive” : an accumulation of interrelated ideas, sites, objects, and political and social conditions that undergird the present.
In the first monograph dedicated to her work, passages ot archival imagery and documents collected by the artist provide new insight into how her work identifies and resurfaces alternative histories of Cyprus, moving across formats and into her atmospheric exhibitions. Passer is initiated on the occasion of Xenofontos’s representation of the Republic of Cyprus at the 61st Venice Biennale. The book provides a comprehensive overview of her artistic activities over the last fifteen years, offering new writing and extensive illustration of artworks and exhibitions that have spanned kinetic sculpture, film, new media, and more. Alongside the Cyprus Pavilion curator Kyle Dancewicz, contributors include Dina Akhmadeeva, Arijit Bhattacharyya, Banu Cennetoglu, Laura McLean-Ferris, and Maya Tounta.
