Energetic Formal Creations Conquering Space

The sculptor Michael Dekker’s (b. Ludwigshafen, 1983; lives and works in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf) practice combines natural shaping processes with an architectonic thinking in which space, volume, and motion in place and time are key categories. Working with found, cut, and bent materials, he develops large-format sculptures that embody construction and movement in equal measure. Dekker’s shapes and figurations spiral upwards in sweeping organic arcs that seem to be propelled by shifts of direction.

Liquid is Michael Dekker’s first monograph and presents a comprehensive overview of his output of the past fifteen years. Essays by Prof. Dr. Thomas A. Lange, Kay Heymer, and Jörg Mascherrek contextualize his oeuvre in the tradition of modern sculpture and throw the significance of rhythm and music into relief.
