Rainer Brenner

I, I, I, I, I

All My Secrets Are My Lies.

Rainer Brenner (b. Zurich, 1981; lives and works in Zurich) is an editor, copywriter, and concept developer. His new book I, I, I, I, I illustrates how he constructs images out of language, how words shape mental imagery, and how much image there is in the writing. His engagement with the interactions between writing and images culminates in a series of lyrical works that make their public debut in this artist’s book. Brenner’s art unfurls a visual and semantic exploration across six hundred pages. In micro-narratives, serial neologisms, and poems that catch the eye, words depart from their wonted surroundings. An astute and nimble-witted observer with a tendency towards the sombre, he jots down insights in lyrical lines that recall the tradition of écriture automatique: A heavy heart, what’s wrong with my so heavy heart or Don’t be ashamed, you won’t be remembered.
