Duell oder Duett?
In the exhibition “ROSA” at the Philara Collection, the artists Rosilene Luduvico (b. Espirito Santo, Brazil, 1969; lives and works in Düsseldorf) and Sabrina Fritsch (b. Neunkirchen/Saar, Germany, 1979; lives and works in Cologne) teamed up for a temporary project. This book documents their collaboration in which – inspired by Ingeborg Bachmann’s novel Malina – they undertook a painterly exploration of the “legend of a woman who never existed.”
Sabrina Fritsch’s abstract works oscillate between a dominant structure, the concrete application of paint, and dispersive layers of color. In contrast, at the basis of Luduvico’s works are sweeping lines, floral forms, and delicate pastel brushstrokes. Juxtaposing their paintings reinforces the element of movement implicit in each individual work, keeping the viewer’s perception suspended between qualities of color and space and representational elements. Thus, the foreground focus of one (narrative and figure) complements that of the other (abstraction and color). When seen together, the works in “ROSA” yield a novel and unique viewing experience.
With essays by Katharina Klang and Doris Krystof.
