See You at the Studio! Ten Years with Artists in Residence

Visit the Studio!

The studio as a vital scene of the artistic imagination as well as the real setting of artists’ work, the place where they create and exchange ideas with colleagues—their workshop, laboratory, archive, social space, or exhibition venue—is the point of departure for the project See You at the Studio! Ten Years with Artists in Residence.

From 2013 until 2023, KfW Stiftung cooperated with Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin to run an international residency program that nurtured creative production and intercultural dialogue in a globalized world. Time and again, new residents moved into the two studio apartments, made them their homes, took possession of them, furnished and decorated them, and threw open their doors to visitors. For the exhibition See You at the Studio! organized by KfW Stiftung at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, the studio as such now relocates into the exhibition space; the former residents, from sixteen different countries, are given the floor again, engaging each other in dialogue and in this way opening their studios to the public.

The comprehensive volume is an invitation to peek inside the international artists’ and former residents’ studios. The contributions by Nikita Dhawan, Yvette Mutumba, Barbara Wittmann, and others explore the significance of the studio as a unique place and probe questions of global artistic practice.
