Visions of the Future, Conceived by Artists

Thanks to ever more powerful computers, artificial intelligence (AI) has been at the top of the agenda for years. The use of AI has a sustained transformative impact on every aspect of our lives—on our homes and workplaces, on how we communicate and travel. As part of the research project at HafenCity University Hamburg, artists explore visions of society and possible openings for AI as well as the question of how art can contribute to the social debate over the development and assessment of these new technologies.

The publication documents the fruits of artistic research and interventions under the thematic headings of “smart environments” and “smart bodies” and reflects on the potential of artistic research as a contribution to the discourse, with scholarly essays by Regula Valérie Burri, Priska Gisler, Lothar Hotz , Merle Richter, and Laura Sigrüner.
