München – Streifzüge

“Munich is an advertising brochure, but it does have its yellowed and torn pages; they exist next to, between, and beneath the glossy pages.”

Tobias Meier (b. Landshut, 1985; lives and works in Munich) focuses his camera’s lens on the traces of subculture and counterculture that surface in the urban fabric.

When the native of a country town in Bavaria moved to Munich, he missed the signs of life, the grime, the authentic, and so he went in search of it. Thirteen years later, his photographs in München—Streifzüge demonstrate that each of the city’s neighborhoods is a microcosm unto itself, with distinctive characteristics and an individual aesthetic: from Hasenbergl to Neuhausen, from Schwabing to Neuperlach, Meier uncovers telling details and singular irregularities that refute all stereotypes.
