Multiperspectival Drawings

The artist Xian Zheng (b. Hunan, China; lives and works in Linz) has devoted herself entirely to the medium of drawing. A landscape and interior architect by training, she has taught at the University of Art and Design Linz since 2017. Her graphic art, often in large formats, is dedicated to a meticulous recording of interior and exterior spaces. She is particularly interested in architectonic ensembles and spatial structures, which she studies and elaborates with exacting attention to detail. The defining feature of her creative approach is multiperspectivalism: to capture every aspect and facet of a space, she assembles views from different angles that nonetheless yield a homogeneous overall impression.

In her most recent project and first monograph The Wandering Gaze. 2017–2024, Xian Zheng renders interiors where visual artists live and work in precise and richly detailed images. With an essay by Gabriele Spindler.
