Body and Book as Medium

The Taiwanese media artist Ya-Wen Fu (b. 1980; lives and works in Berlin) creates installations and performances that investigate the boundaries of our bodies. Using a variety of materials such as acrylic glass and metal, Fu interweaves her performative practice with sculpture and installation art. Her animated sculptures demonstrate that, as she sees it, one’s own body is never free from society’s influences and constraints. 

With the publication So Absurd!, Ya-Wen Fu expands her artistic projects by including drawings, sketches, and access to an augmented reality animation that will be available exclusively from 2026 to 2030. Owners of the book can scan the pop-up page with their smartphone and encounter different animations by the artist at various points in time. Rather than remaining static, that is to say, the book continues to evolve over several years, becoming an integral part of the artistic process in its own right.
